Terms of use
Effective 10 September 2026.
These terms govern your use of the WorkCtx software and the workctx.app website (together, "WorkCtx"), made by Smith Built Concepts. By installing or using WorkCtx you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install it.
What WorkCtx is, and is not
WorkCtx is software that runs on your own computer or on a removable drive you carry. It gives each of your clients a separate browser profile and keeps the credentials for them in a vault encrypted with a master password that you choose.
It is not a cloud service. It has no accounts, it sends nothing to us, and we hold nothing of yours. It is not a backup service and it is not a custodian of your data. We never have your master password, your keys or your data, and we cannot recover any of them.
Your password, your recovery kit and your backups
Because everything WorkCtx stores stays on your devices and is encrypted with keys that only you hold:
- If you lose your master password (and, where WorkCtx has issued one, your recovery kit), your vault cannot be opened by anyone, including us. There is no reset.
- You are responsible for keeping backups. WorkCtx includes an encrypted backup and an export for this purpose. Keep a copy somewhere other than the device or drive WorkCtx runs on.
- You remain responsible to your own clients for how their credentials are handled. WorkCtx is a tool for that work; using it does not transfer or reduce your obligations.
Pre-release software
While a version of WorkCtx is marked alpha or beta, it is pre-release software. Expect defects, and do not make it the only copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Licence
Smith Built Concepts grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use WorkCtx on computers and drives you control, for your own work, in accordance with the licence you hold: the free evaluation licence, or a paid licence whose scope (the people or seats it covers, and the period during which it entitles you to updates) is stated when you buy it.
You may not sell, rent, or redistribute WorkCtx as your own product; remove or alter any notice in it; or use it to do anything unlawful. You may not reverse engineer it, except to the extent that the law expressly permits you to regardless of this clause.
Where WorkCtx is published as source-available software, the licence that accompanies the source governs the source, and these terms govern the packaged software and the website.
Ownership
The WorkCtx name, brand, software and website are owned by Smith Built Concepts. Your data is yours. The browsers WorkCtx drives, and the websites you open in them, belong to their own owners and are governed by their own terms.
Buying a licence, and refunds
Paid licences are sold through a merchant of record, named at checkout, who is the seller of record for the purchase, issues the invoice, and handles refunds under its own policy. These terms govern your use of the software; the merchant's terms govern the purchase.
Privacy
WorkCtx is built to collect nothing, and it does. The software never connects to us, and the website has no analytics, cookies or third-party scripts. See our privacy policy for the whole of it.
No warranty, and limitation of liability
WorkCtx is provided as is. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Smith Built Concepts excludes all warranties, conditions and guarantees not expressly stated in these terms, and is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, WorkCtx, including loss of data, loss of credentials, loss of access to any account, loss of business, or loss of profits, however caused. To the extent liability cannot be excluded, it is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the software or paying the cost of re-supplying it, and in any case to the amount you paid for your licence.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
Changes
We may update WorkCtx or these terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted at workctx.app with a new effective date. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia.
